“The hardest thing in life, is finding somebody you can't live without, and then living without them.” - David Jones My grandma is one of the most incredible women I know and I could go on and on about what I appreciate about her, what she’s taught me, and all she’s done for me. But the most important thing she’s shown me is how love is suppose to be: selfless without forgetting one’s self. My grandma was married to my grandpa for 60 years before he passed in 2015, and while their marriage wasn’t perfect, it was a beautiful example of selfless love, especially as I watched my grandma took care of my grandpa the last few years of his life. Today, she’s 91, still biking several miles a day, and holding the memory of my grandpa close, never taking off his ring, that perfectly compliments hers. After visiting her recently and hearing this beautiful audio, I knew I had to capture their love that still lives on through her. But even more than that, after talking with her on a deeper level, I’m reminded the challenges of growing old, losing loved ones, and feeling less and less like aren’t a “value” to society anymore, as my grandma puts it. So if you have older loved ones in your life, make sure to take time to give them a call, visit them as much as you can, and always give them lots of love. Growing old can be beautiful, but it can also be a challenge, and they need to know they still hold immense value in our families and society. Also, I know this is much different than my usual content I post, but in 2024, my goal is to not just focus on the “banger” shots and moments you see across social media. I want to tell stories and be more real, focusing on the moments in between, not just the highlight reels we share on here. This is a start, but expect to see more of this type of content throughout the year!
