i used to build performance jeep engines. i have found some 1996 or so engines that the bolts have a defect at about the same spot you saw the bolt split. i believe it was a bad batch of mfg bolts.

I would skip heli coil and just go straight to a Time-Sert. Permanent repair.

I just had to replace I rocker stud on a it broke in the locking nut
