@missclairebenjamin: 🚨Handling the “clingy” one👇 🧠 When someone you’re managing comes to you looking for support with what seems like every little thing it can start to feel exhausting and draining. 💡Everyone is different and some people need more reassurance and support to feel confident in their own decision making. 🔥 It’s hard not to get frustrated & criticise their “clingy” behaviour. But know as their manager you can have such a huge impact on their confidence & their ability to think more independently. ▶️ Tied to this as a manager we sometimes unintentionally create this dependent dynamic whereby they come to you with a problem and you give them the answers. Whilst this is well intended it can mean that they do not develop their own thinking process for when problems arise. ✅ I’d recommend using a coaching approach to build their confidence and help them feel safe making decisions more autonomously. This may also require you to release some control which can take practice. These are both powerful questions: 1️⃣ What do you think would be a good approach? 2️⃣ How did you approach a situation similar to this in the past? Be sure to encourage their self- belief and keep a watch on your own desire to tell them the answers. Over time you should start to see a shift in their confidence. 💬 Comment “YES” if you’re going to try this approach 📌 Please be mindful that the perspective offered in this video is generalised and won’t fit every situation so please follow your instincts about whether this applies to your situation. Can you do one on handling the person who doesn't think they need a manager? Maybe the "know it all" or the "been here forever".
