Catching when they jump in. HUGE NO… Confidence building? Is it really though, if they cannot actually submerge, then why give that experience? That won’t make them less impulsive around water? Less Curious? And if they are doing it WHILE WEARING A FLOATIE, then they will definitely be more likely to jump in when you’re not there. If they really wanna jump in, and you’re on the fence about it. Tell them, IM NOT GOING TO CATCH YOU.. let them do it! They fall under, you allow it completely, you turn their body underwater and guide them directly back to the wall they just came from. THAT is the foundation for safety, always getting back to the wall. You do not want them thinking it’s ever a good idea to jump out, OR SWIM out to the middle of nowhere. Never a puddle Jumper, Always submerged Jumps. Your kid might be one good face under jump away from actually starting to learn to swim. SO DO IT for real. If your kid is in this scenario, you need our course for survival swimming. Any parent can execute this, but you have to learn how. 40 plus years between us, we will give you the confidence to set your kid up for success whatever their situation.
