I would recommend turning off lights my little sister has autism and she does this too. We noticed that when we turn off the lights that she doesn’t do it as much.

I think kids and adults with autism can see things differently than we can with the eyes. BC, my son does this & other eye stims as if he sees things I can't that satisfy & calm him

my son is NV level 3 and he used to do this. we turned the lights off and he didn't do it as much.
