@raisingtwigandbananas: For school-aged children with ADHD, reading can be a major chore, but it’s one of the most important skills kids should master in order to be life long learners. Reading deficits can negatively impact achievement, self-esteem and confidence and we just cannot accept this. So, we have to help them become strong readers. Here are a few strategies to use at home: - Read daily, like every day…even for only 5-10 minutes. It’s better than 0 minutes. - CHUNK IT! Print out an article and cut it up because it can be daunting to look at an entire page and know that they have to read it all. - Chunking can also help maintain interest and focus. - Provide or ask questions during reading to check for understanding, frequently. - Do what you can to engage them in reading; make it a game, take turns reading with them, read “fun” books that they enjoy. - Take as many breaks as they need. We can do this! Our kids need us to adjust and advocate. I hope this helps anyone that needs it! #adhdawareness #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #neurodiverselearners #adhdparenting #adhdparentingtips #adhdparents #readingstrategies #readingathome #readingforkids

❤️🤩As and adult with ADHD I wish someone would had allowed this when I was a child. My mind was always running wild and I had to make notes and more all over so I could be able to retain what I was

How does an unschooling lead you to teaching this? I’m genuinely interested. I just started homeschooling 2 weeks ago and I’m trying to find our style.

I taught my son how to read by letting him climb all over me while he read and went over flashcards at 4, whatever works! (He is a voracious reader)🥰
