They performed at Terminal 1, an airplane hanger that could hold around 3,050 people. The venue was not ideal, and the acoustics didn't sound great, but Kurt wasn't aware of this until the performance as he skipped soundcheck. The first song performed was a cover of "My Best Friend's Girl" by The Cars, one of the first songs Kurt learned to play on guitar. During the first verse of "Come As You Are," the power went out. The band returned to the stage about two minutes after the power was restored and restarted the song. Due to the time lost during the power cut, Nirvana had to remove one song from their set. They chose "Smells Like Teen Spirit." The following two shows in Germany were cancelled due to Kurt's severe laryngitis and bronchitis, which is quite audible during this show. The rest of this leg of the In Utero tour would be cancelled due to Kurt's overdose in Rome on the 4th, and the entirety of the tour would be cancelled due to Kurt's death in April.
