@sineadbovell: What happens when demographics change for ever? One of the most fundamental demographic shifts in human history is about to take place. Our demographics look different than they did even seventy years ago. People are choosing to have fewer children, which leads to an aging population that could strain social services and deal a blow to the economy. But isn’t slower population growth supposed to be more sustainable for our environment? The answer is complicated– but it’s one we’ll have to understand to tackle our changing world Our latest episode for PBS Far Out
We’re running out of space and resources, why would it be good to keep expanding let alone why would it be alarming to not be growing? Sounds like a very capitalist mindset not based in actual needs.

Victor :
Economic growth was a function of population growth. If population growth is going to peak, our only hope is to experience productivity growth.

It’s only an existential threat to our current economic paradigms. Are they suggesting humans are too stupid to reimagine another system?

It should decline, but only in humane ways (birth control, women’s rights). There is not enough resources on this planet to support more than 10 billion people

You don't need to watch - basically capitalism works by growth and consumption. Pensions will be an issue too, with an ageing population.
