Where in the world?👇🏽 I decided on Africa, but had to narrow it down from there. 🐢I wanted to travel at a slow and sustainable pace, meaning I’d opt for less countries than 6 months might normally include. 🗺️Adventure called for all the countries I visited to be new (eliminating Tanzania, Uganda, and Egypt)… with the one exception being South Africa - I’d only spent time with the elephants when I was last there, leaving the rest of the country unseen. ❌After extensive research on over a dozen countries, many were eliminated: 🇧🇼Botswana - Cost 🇳🇦Namibia - Logistics 🇿🇼Zimbabwe - Diversity of options 🇷🇼Rwanda - Cost Etc… I’ll make it to all of them eventually! 6️⃣Months of deliberation and research culminated into six countries, in order - South Africa, Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Morocco. 🛖This split would allow me to experience vastly different landscapes and cultures, spanning four of the five regions of the continent. 🇨🇩Why not squeeze in the fifth region (Central)? Budget constraints and less tourist infrastructure relegated the elusive frontier region to another trip. The factors that guided my decision: 🧐Curiosity: if a country piqued my interest, it qualified for consideration. 💻Familiarity / Ease of Research: familiarity guided curiosity, and ease of research meant that I felt the country was not so unchartered that it might be overly ambitious for my first trip like this. 🦒Regional Diversity: I wanted to spread my visits to the different regions, and managed 4/5 - South Africa & Malawi (Southern), Kenya & Ethiopia (Eastern), Ghana (Western), Morocco (Northern). ☔️Time of year: I did my best to optimize for being in a place at the best time of year to be there (weather), making out mostly well for the whole trip. *My intention is to stick to this plan, but it’s possible things change! Follow along to see how it goes. What do you know about any of the six countries I’m heading to? Comment below 👇🏽
