Heaven help me 🙏 Wow, this blew up. Here are some FAQs: 🧡 Why is he muzzled? Arthur is a very friendly, exuberant teenage dog with a mouthy play style; most of his dog friends enjoy this, but we are fostering a newly retired racer who is not used it & it’s stressing her out. Wearing the muzzle allows her to feel comfortable while helping Arthur learn how to play without using his mouth, and allows them to play, cuddle, and hang out instead of being separated. ❤️ Why don’t you train him? He *is* trained! His ability to be comfortable & relaxed wearing a muzzle is one of the many things he has been taught. However, incompatible play styles are not a behavior issue that is resolved through training; dogs generally play how they play, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with his play style! This one dog just doesnt like it, and she shouldn’t have to be on the receiving end of play that makes her uncomfortable. 🩷 Is he actually wearing it all day? Nope! He wears it whenever both he & our foster dog are out in the house/yard together throughout the day (~8hrs per day total). It is removed whenever one or both dogs ask to go in their playpens for alone time or to chew on a bone, when they are separated for meals & nap times, when one goes on a walk, and overnight (Arthur sleeps in our bedroom, she sleeps in the kitchen). 💜 What are other reasons a dog might wear a muzzle? Muzzles are extremely versatile! Every dog should be trained to wear one. Arthur can wear his muzzle instead of a giant cone if he has surgery or a wound that he shouldn’t lick or chew. He can wear it while hiking to prevent him from grabbing bites of poisonous plants or mushrooms (he’s tried)! He wears it while playing certain sports to protect his mouth from injuries. He wears it for vet appointments or while receiving first aid; even the nicest dogs can bite if they are in pain. 💙 Why does he look sad? Is the muzzle uncomfortable? Is it forced on him? Arthur willingly puts the muzzle on, no force necessary! It’s very comfortable, the materials are soft and flexible, and it has a very cushy padded noseband. He doesn’t mind wearing it at all, and knows how to take it off if he doesnt want to wear it. He isn’t sad, he’s actually just sleepy and resisting taking a nap! 💚 What style muzzle is that? Where can I buy one? This is a Jafco in clear vinyl; it was purchased from @LeerburgOfficial, but I’m sure there’s other vendors as well! #muzzle #muzzleddogsaregooddogs #muzzletraining #jafco #greyhound #likeaprayer #dogtok #dogsoftiktok #facejail #naughtydog
