@goldenstatedermatology: As dermatologists, we often encounter the misconception that a raised mole is the primary indicator of skin cancer. However, in our thorough skin checks, we're looking for more than that using the ABCDEs of skin health. You can check your own skin regularly for these as well, keeping a close eye on anything new or changing. A stands for Asymmetry, where we scrutinize if one half of the spot differs from the other. B is for Border, and involves assessing the edges—looking for irregularities, scalloping, or poorly defined borders. C is Color, where we examine if the spot showcases varying hues like tan, brown, black, or even areas of white, red, and even blue. D stands for Diameter, and considers the size; while melanomas are generally larger than 6 millimeters, they can, in fact, be smaller. E for Evolving, which means any changes in size, shape, or color over time. Be sure to follow as we debunk more common skin myths! #gsd #goldenstate #goldenstatedermatology
