@cspanofficial: The Supreme Court ruled Monday that former President Trump should remain on Colorado’s primary ballot, rejecting a constitutional challenge to his eligibility due to his role in efforts to subvert the 2020 election that culminated in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The justices sided unanimously with Mr. Trump against a group of Colorado voters who tried to prevent him from appearing on the ballot under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, a Civil War-era clause that bars from office anyone who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the Constitution after having previously taken an oath to support it. The Colorado Supreme Court cited that section when it ruled in December that Mr. Trump was ineligible to appear on the state’s ballot, but Monday’s ruling said that states do not have the power to unilaterally remove candidates for federal office. “This case raises the question whether the States, in addition to Congress, may also enforce Section 3,” the decision read. “We conclude that States may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office.
