@cleoabram: This is how animals see color. A group of scientists just created a new camera to help us see how animals see - and it’s so cool. Here's how it works and why it matters... You and I see color because of special cells in the back of our eyes called photoreceptors. But we can only see this tiny chunk of the electromagnetic spectrum that we call "visible light." Other animals have different photoreceptors, and can see more of it. We know that some birds and bees can see infrared light UV light - which means the sky looks very different to a bird! And sunscreen looks white to us because we see it reflect visible light, but it absorbs ultraviolet light, so it would look very different to a bee. Besides just being fascinating, this is one more way we can better understand the world. And it’s a reminder of how many ways there are to look at things :) If you like optimistic science and tech stories, follow for more! #hugeiftrue #sciencefacts #Science #technology #animation #animals #askcleo #LearnOnTikTok

This makes me wonder, are there animals that are colorblind or is that a uniquely human thing?

how can we know how their brains interpret the photoreceptors? can we really say any more that this is how humans would see it if we had those additional or fewer receptors?

Love that you’re braking in to optics!! Your photoreceptors are called rods and cones. Rods receive vision in low light. Cones are are color receptors! #Opticianry #Optics

Do you think that this is already part of the solution to permanent disease like Macular Degeneration for example?
