@spaceboxofficial: The Columbia disaster occurred on February 1, 2003, when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon re-entering Earth's atmosphere, leading to the tragic loss of all seven crew members. The accident was traced back to damage sustained during launch when a piece of foam insulation broke off from the shuttle's external fuel tank and struck the left wing's leading edge. This damage compromised the shuttle's thermal protection system, allowing hot gases to penetrate the wing during re-entry and cause the vehicle to break apart. The disaster led to a suspension of the Space Shuttle program and a reevaluation of NASA's safety and operational procedures 😔 | #space #nasa #disaster #explore #fypシ #foryou #foryoupage

Did they all die? 😢

🇮🇩_SFS_INDONESIA_🇮🇩 :

Actually, NASA already knew that they were going to have an accident, but NASA chose to remain silent so that the crew wouldn't panic and it would be like a normal accident.

Sarah :

It's obviously awful for those killed. But it's also horrible seeing their colleagues on the ground dealing with the realisation of what has happened.

One of my elementary teachers had her best friend on that flight. I'll never forget how hard she wept.

There are still people who think this and the challenger was fake

Challenger gets the most attention but as a 90s kid this is the accident that I vividly remember. RIP to those brave explorers

My young son and I were watching the live feed online. The screen switched to a written statement saying they had initiated an emergency search and rescue operation. :(
