Ducklings are often bought as Easter gifts or purchased on impulse at farm stores every spring. Unfortunately this leads to many owners who are not prepared to care for full grown ducks that end up dumping them at ponds or lakes. Domestic ducks are not the same as wild ducks, and they will struggle to survive without humans. Most domestic ducks can’t fly so they can’t migrate or avoid predators easily and oftentimes don’t even survive a few months in the wild. Luckily, there are rescues dedicated to helping save these ducks. But unfortunately there are oftentimes just too many ducks being abandoned and the rescues don’t have enough space to take more in. By adopting a duck from these rescues you’re not only changing the life of your new friend, but you’re also making space for the rescue to save another duck. I think many people don’t even know duck rescues exist, so they will simply always choose to purchase ducklings at a farm store or from a hatchery instead. I believe that if we can get these ducks photos in front of the right people, they will surely find their forever family. While there might not be a duck rescue in every town, there are rescues all across the U.S. It might not be as convenient as buying a duckling from a farm store or having them shipped to your nearest post office, but driving a few hours is worth it to save the life of a duck in need.
