If his name is on the mortgage he is also legally responsible for the debt. She can claim it as part of the marital assets. He either has to pay half or buy her out of the house.

I think it depends on if he can AFFORD to pay the mortgage and live separately. If not the house will need to be sold. I was in a similar situation. My ex spiralled into addiction and stopped working

she needs to contact a mediator , if the dad refuses mediation then she can go to a solicitor and the courts will say he needs to pay . unfortunately he can't be forced though if he still refuses

By law dad has to pay what the Csa say which is about 20% of his monthly income. If he’s not paying that amount she can do a claim thru the Csa who’ll take it directly from his pay cheque & charge him

Solicitors usually give a free consultation to begin with she would benefit greatly from that. Not sure of the circumstances but if there was DV involved she would also be eligible for free legal 1/2
