Why do so many people around me have huge hibiscus bushes in their yards but all these people claim they can’t survive the winter? I live in Wisconsin and it gets to -40°. Did I just make a huge mistake buying one for my mom 😩

Mine looks like this right now. I kept it inside under grow light watering once a month lightly. I just trimmed back and it's just stalks.
