I never played baseball as a kid so I’m not great at teaching my kid too much. Your videos are great. Either funny or informative. Many of us appreciate them.

getting the out is always important but I always coached to make the play at the base they started from, if we botch it, nothing lost

Rather push the runner to second initially, it’s always the second toss that gets messed up and they’ll be at first if that happens

Worst part at every level, the receiver doesnt shorten the base path soon enough or fast enough. Catch the ball at about the 60 ft mark. teach kids how to run/throw/catch simultaneously. No runner

It should be done in one throw. You force the runner to first, till he commits, then you throw it to the first baseman for the tag.

B_rad2410 :
I’m a firm believer the 2nd baseman should be taught to start towards first and minimize the area the runner is allowed.

I'm not crazy about the receiver calling 'ball'; the defender holding the baseball can see well enough when to throw to the other defender.

Great video and explanation, however as you are more than aware, 6-8 year olds are not doing run downs and if their coach is trying to teach them this when there are so many other basic fundamentals
