It's not always a "silent treatment". It's a way to take time and think about what hurt and how to express it without being misunderstood or driven by sadness. I think it protects both people.

My ex used to do the silent treatment whenever I brought up things I want to fix in our relationship or my feelings . I just walked away. I cannot feel better . No contact is the right move for me .
