@beyondthestreets: Fresh off the opening of our latest exhibition, GORDON MATTA-CLARK: NYC GRAFFITI ARCHIVE 1972/73, we’re excited to introduce exclusive apparel made for the show. The collection, consisting of four t-shirt designs, pays tribute to the legendary graffiti writers of the 1972/1973 NYC era—SNAKE 1, WICKED GARY, and STAFF 161. Each piece is a wearable piece of history and testament to their unforgettable impact on graffiti. STAFF 161 grew up in the worst neighborhood in all of New York, “Fort Apache,” in the South Bronx during the 1960s. It was there he assembled a graffiti club called the EBONY DUKES, that would go on to be one of the most celebrated crews in the history of graffiti. SNAKE 1 is a Washington Heights writer and one of the founding fathers of WRITERS CORNER 188, christening it by adding ‘W.C. 188’ to his name on walls, buses and subway trains and later becoming vice president of the crew. WICKED GARY attended Erasmus High School in Brooklyn in the early 1970s. The school was fertile ground for many writers who knew each other. DINO NOD, a natural born leader, decided to form a group called the EX VANDALS for EXPERIENCED VANDALS.
