@sachistorymuseum: March 9th is National Barbie Day! It is on this day in 1959 that the iconic toy, Barbie, made its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York. Considering Greta Gerwig, the director of the box office hit Barbie Movie was born and grew up in Sacramento, we could not pass this day up! For today, Jared letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) from the Lewis Winter Collection. This cut depicting a young woman wearing a stylish hat was made by Lewis Winter in the 1890s. We’d like to think this is Barbie from 130 years ago. The text below reads “Happy National Barbie Day!” and was typeset in 24 point Stymie Bold font. This was printed with a mix of rhodamine red and opaque white rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #SacHistoryMuseum #NationalBarbieDay #Barbie #GretaGerwig #onthisday #pink #ink #typography #sacramento #museum #history #letterpress #printing
