If you use the brown listerine (not blue or green) it kills bacteria like bleach does AND has a tiny bit of sugar the flowers like (florist told me years ago)

florist here. you are doing a technique called reflexing. make sure the flowers are room temp it will make it easier to fold the petals back.

You don’t have to hold the flower upside down next to the vase to measure. You can hold it right side up and it will give you the same idea. Probably better, because you can see the actual flower.
