As a child and while growing up we learn to value ourselves based on the reactions of our parents/caregivers and close environment. Our parents/caregivers shape (a big part) the way we perceive ourselves. When we grow up and experience trauma, for example by being surrounded by violence, abuse or continues emotional neglect, we learn from an early age that we cannot trust people and that the world is an unsafe and unpredictable place. We feel overwhelmed, lonely and helpless. As a result we start blaming ourselves instead of recognizing our parent having the problem. It often comes with feeling a lot of shame, guilt and a harsh inner critic. As an adult you might struggle with a low seefestem & questioning your selfworth.  A first step on your healing journey is to become aware of your inner critic and negative self talk - journaling is a helpful tool.  As a practice try to speak out loud to yourself infront of a mirror and engage into a kind and caring conversation with yourself. Asking „how am I really doing today“ and literally getting to know yourself better.
