The Coleman Church Cemetery is an African-American Cemetery located in the now uninhabited town called Coleman. Coleman was established shortly after emancipation as an isolated and self-sufficient community outside of Rochelle, FL. The small community of Coleman was founded after the Civil War by emancipated African Americans. There was once a church, a store, a few houses, and a turpentine factory all centralized to the north of the church cemetery. No buildings continue to exist but there is evidence that homesteaders once settled here. All graves belong to former enslaved peoples or slave descendants and many would become successful farmers soon after the end of the Civil War. By the early 1900s, most of those buried in the Coleman Cemetery had extensive acreage owning their land free of any mortgages. One local named Albert Hall became a successful farmer and landowner donating the property for the church and cemetery. #BlackHistory #floridahistory
