@geckoemmy: I am always sharing happy and calm parrot beak and nail trims, so I thought you all might like to see one that is a little bit… different. This parrot was just adopted from a rescue and the new owners noticed that there was something a little bit unusual going on with his beak. If left uncorrected, the projection on his lower beak will continue to grow upwards and make it difficult for him to eat. It also distorts the upper beak more and more as it puts pressure on it, so it’s important to keep the uneven wear under control. #cockatoo #rescueparrot #beaktrim #petbirds
Babe, I love that you share the same knowledge over and over so nobody new, old, or in between misses out.

I mean I get the bird attacking the towel, I'd also be angry if someone wrapped me in a towel and used that to hold my head still

I like how the people that rescued the little cockatoo recognized immediately that there was something wrong with his beak. That’s how you know you got a good owner.

Is there a reason to avoid sedation for this level of fear? Are there meds you can send home to give for anxiety prior to apt next time? (I’m from equine/small animal land 0 experience with parrots)

Do they have a lot of feeling in the beaks when petted there like a turtle? Or is it just pressure?

he was socialized by the previous owner at least, the behavior was excellent aside from the trim trauma

My bird has very long quicks which makes it hard to file them down to a good length. Is there anything you recommend? She has a variety of perches and surfaces.

Is the excess powder from the trimmed beak harmful if too much gets down his throat?

My cockatoo was hatched with a deviated beak. If we don’t keep it trimmed, it causes a dent in the side of his beak!

Sometimes the dremmel can feel hot even if it isn’t overheating and that really freaks them out, I usually switch to a finer grit and it’s slow going but it has less of a sensation for them

I have to ask, in fearful cases like this, would it not be better to use an Emery board instead of something with an engine making a bunch of noise?
