@bee.jeweled.coop: Building a chicken coop this spring? 🏠🐓 Here are a few DIY coop building tips to help you on your journey! 1. Placing your roosting bars 10-12” from the wall and each other will help keep chicken waste off the wall (less scrubbing!) and give your chickens plenty of room to roost. 2. Plexiglass windows for natural lighting! This is my favorite tip and one that I learned from my parents when they built our horse barn in 1992. Barns and sheds are so dark without windows. Glass windows can break and be hazardous. Plexiglass windows are safer, easier to install, provide more insulation than glass and let tons of natural light into the space! 3. Build nesting boxes lower than your roosting bars. I know it’s more convenient if you don’t have to bend down to collect eggs but, if your nesting boxes are roosting level, your chickens might end up sleeping in them. That means 💩 in your 🪺.
