SEKÉSÉ OF DANDALUNDA — AN ANCESTRAL PRAYER PRESERVED IN BRAZIL 🇦🇴 There are sacred words that survive not because they were written down, but because generations refused to let them disappear. The Sekésé of Dandalunda is part of this ancestral memory preserved through generations within Brazilian Candomblé Angola. Its language carries recognizable Central African elements alongside words transformed through centuries of oral transmission. Rather than forcing a literal translation where the original linguistic meaning has been partially lost, we can approach its ritual meaning with respect. Sekésé: Sekésé di Kan Dandalunda Sekésé di Kan Buandá Ô Kassangi kolassange já Mukonguê Indulo kaia lakaia já Mundelé Kassutenda ê Indulo kaia lakaia já Mundelé Angoroméa Kongo samba Angola Azuelê, katu di Malá Azuelê, katu di Dandalunda Azuelê, katu Azuelê, katu di Dandalunda Azuelê, katu di Malá Approximate ritual meaning: “We invoke and praise Dandalunda. May her force manifest among us. From the ancient lands of Kassange comes the force of the hunter, crossing paths and peoples, reaching even the Mundelé. We salute and revere this force. Angoroméa and Angorô are invoked within the sacred memory of Kongo and Angola. Hail this ancestral force! Hail the force of Dandalunda! May Dandalunda manifest, be revered, and remain over us. Hail Dandalunda, hail Kongo, hail Angola, and the ancestral forces that sustain and protect our house and our heads.” This should be understood as an approximate ritual interpretation, not a literal word-for-word translation. Parts of the Sekésé remain linguistically uncertain, while names and terms such as Dandalunda, Kassange, Angoroméa, Kongo, Angola and Mundelé preserve remarkable traces of Central African memory. And perhaps that is what makes this prayer so extraordinary: after generations in Brazil, Africa can still be heard within it. What survived through oral tradition is more than a song. It is memory, language, ancestry and resistance carried from one generation to another. #oshun #CandombleAngola #bantu #africanhistory #ifa @Ogun African Shop @Iyalode OsunRemi❌
