A wedding with Neymar, Luis Suárez, and Gerard Piqué among the guests—and the bride and groom didn’t want gifts. When Lionel Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo got married in 2017, at one of the most talked-about weddings in the world of soccer, they asked for something unusual for an event like that: instead of buying them traditional presents, they wanted guests to donate to a good cause. They chose TECHO, an organization that builds emergency housing for families in need in Argentina, the country where Messi was born. According to reports, the donations raised $11,386, enough to help fund 10 emergency homes. That amount may not sound like much compared with the splendor of the ceremony, but for ten families, it meant going from having no safe roof over their heads to having a place to sleep. What would you have asked each guest for if you could ask for anything?
