Doesn't this assume the Southern Air Temple had statues for EVERY avatar? It could be an issue of recorded history especially since we know Wan wasn't known about till Korra.

there's been 10,000 years between won Korra. kuruk died at 33 in kyoshi lived to 230, the average is 58 to 60. If we do 10,000 / 60 you get 166.6 repeating.

It would make sense if Avatars generally had a low lifespan. The job description has you battling conflicts and there are many with a vested interest in removing an Avatar for their schemes

This could easily be explained by a period of time where the avatar was hunted over and over or a period of war if not multiple. Many avatars were actually horrible people so it would make sense.
