They inhabit practically any region of the planet, from tropical regions to colder regions, salt water and fresh water, soil, mountains, deserts... It is said that Nematodes represent 90% of the animals present on the seabed. They feed on a wide variety of material depending on the species; fungi, bacteria, algae, including living tissue. They play an important role as recyclers and decomposers and are very effective in controlling the bacteria population. Its size can vary drastically, from less than 1 mm to the 8 meters long that Placentonema gigantissima can reach.
