@miamifruit: Have you tried silverberries? These tiny fruits have a tart yet juicy flesh beneath their smooth orange skin. They grow on our small farm in South Florida in limited quantity and you can order the fruit at miamifruit.org. Silverberries are high in vitamin C and lycopene, and they’re tasty raw or cooked. Cooking the fruit increases the lycopene content. The fruits and seeds are a good source of essential fatty acids as well which is very unusual for a fruit. The seeds are also edible although somewhat fibrous, and are especially high in proteins and fats. This plant is a nitrogen fixer. It takes nitrogen out of the air and puts it into the ground through a symbiotic relationship with a bacteria that lives in their roots, thereby improving the fertility of the surrounding soils. You can eat this fruit fresh or cook it into a jam or bread. #Silverberry #Miamifruit
