@chrispenny_ceramics: This is how I learnt to tap centre. Keep the wheel speed constant, not too fast and not too slow. Try to keep it the same between practice sessions. I think if you practice this for 10 minutes, everyday for a week you’ll get it. It takes a while to get really comfortable with it but after a week you’ll have a usable skill 👍🏽 (not guaranteed 🤣) If you can already tap centre… try setting the wheel to spin in the opposite direction to your usual direction.
