@willobeingwillo: In the year 332 BCE, Alexander the Great, driven by his ambition to conquer lands and spread Hellenistic culture, invaded Egypt. As he marched into the ancient land, he encountered the city of Memphis, where he was greeted by the Egyptian priests who saw in him the potential for change. During his conquest, Alexander fostered the early beginnings of the cult of Serapis, intrigued by the idea of blending Egyptian and Greek beliefs into a unified faith. However, it was after his death that the cult truly took shape. Following Alexander’s demise, his general Ptolemy seized control of Egypt and proclaimed himself Pharaoh. Ptolemy saw an opportunity to solidify his rule by promoting the cult of Serapis. Ptolemy’s forced the sculptor and craftsman priest of Egypt to create him a statue of Serapis, imbuing it with the attributes of him mixed with both Egyptian and Greek gods. This statue became the centerpiece of the Serapeum, a grand temple and house of religious books and artifacts not to far from the Library of Alexandria served as a temple complex for the worship of the deity Serapis. Ptolemy, with the likeness of Serapis as a symbol of his divine authority, presented himself as the earthly embodiment of the god, further legitimizing his rule as Pharaoh. As Ptolemy’s dynasty continued, Serapis gained popularity among the populace and beyond. His cult spread rapidly throughout the Mediterranean world, becoming one of the most widely worshipped deities of the Hellenistic period. The followers of Serapis are called “Christians”, the parallels between Ptolemy and Jesus emerged in the tales told by Serapis’ followers. Like Jesus, Ptolemy was seen as a divine ruler who brought peace and prosperity to his subjects. Both were believed to have performed acts of benevolence and kindness, earning the admiration and devotion of their followers. Despite the differences in their historical contexts, the stories of Ptolemy and Jesus became intertwined through the lens of Serapis, illustrating the enduring power of myth and the human desire for figures who embody hope, redemption, and divine grace. 😇 #jesus #serapis #christ #zeus #mithra #apis #osiris #hades #willobeingwillo
