@ben_yanes: Keep in mind that other factors influence how “heavy” or “light” a handle will feel on a cable stack or machine, such as other pulleys that are not on the weight stack, levers, their lengths, and their motion, and how your bones, joints, and muscles relate to those levers and the change in their position. You’ll also notice in the cable stack with “one thing” coming off of it that the stack itself moves a much larger distance compared to the one with pulleys on it. Moving a larger distance will contribute substantially to how “heavy” a stack feels because inertial effects (acceleration and deceleration) will be magnified significantly in any object moving a larger distance. I personally prefer to use cable stacks that have one or 2 pulleys attached to the stack when I can, because they feel a lot smoother and allow for generally easier coaching/execution.

Shouldn’t the manufacturers do this math before stamping the plates??? 🤔

They still represent the amount lifted not the amount on the stack

Too much math. Just use dumbbell. Dumbbell is what dumbbell says. Dumbbell is honest.

Then if they have a pulley, they should write the weight that you are lifting then. Instead of making me do math

But there’s a pulley on top of his head in the second one too so ur math doesn’t make sense pulleys don’t distribute weight it redirects force btw

I think they’re just the same😅 pulley or not if it has 50 lbs on it, then it’s 50 lbs

Anyone who says it’s wrong doesn’t understand dynamics and the effect of pulleys, the first clip’s machine has 3 pulleys vs 1 pulley in the 2nd

Correct although some weight stacks label the stacked weight to accommodate for the extra pullies. Example, I’ve done rows with the same amount of labeled weight with 4 pullies as I have with 1 pully.

this is completely wrong. the guy was saying the second is harder because they’re differently stacked. the first is stack every 5lbs the second is stacked every 11

I always assumed they were calibrated for the force lifted, not the weight of the weights. is that not true?

This is only if the wire is fixed to something other than the weight, for example the wall. If there is a wire from the weight going to a wheel to change the direction of the force needed to lift

if you pay attention to the stack you will notice the pulley moves it half the length of the other stack

James ༼ :
So this is false because you generate all of the force to lift the weight no matter what so if 50 pounds is being lifted you are pulling with 50 pounds of force
