simple, if you car starts to sound like a motorcycle you have. please don't use rtv because at that point what's the purpose of a gasket. I understand valve and fromt cause of meeting surfaces.

I usually don’t cut the tip on the cap that comes on it and just use needle nose to pull the residue and it works great

I use my rtv the same way my mom taught me to use the toothpaste, you squeeze little by little from the bottom and start folding the bottom to hold pressure, it keeps a nice full cylinder you can poke

for those tube's you can cut them in half and use a popsicle stick or something, and still fold them closed
