If you're a mum on UC and you've been putting off uni because you think you'll lose everything — swipe through this first. ✅ Yes, you can still claim UC as a full-time student — as long as you're responsible for a child under 16 (or 16–19 and still in school). 💷 Your loan does count as income, but the first £110/month is ignored completely, and your tuition fee loan doesn't count at all. Loans are usually bigger than the UC they replace, so your total money in often goes up even though UC itself drops. 🙅‍♀️ No job-hunting required while you study — your course replaces the usual work-search conditions. ☀️ Summer = your UC goes back up once your loan stops counting as income (just know work requirements can switch back on if your youngest is 3+). 📋 All of this is from the gov.uk website — but it's important you speak directly with your work coach to get the exact figures for YOUR situation. Everyone's numbers are different. It might feel scary. I get it. But 100% of our students who are mums on UC aren't any worse off — every single one of them felt exactly like you do right now, before they started. And right now, we've got final spaces on Global Business and all our HNDs (Business, Health & Social Care, Digital Technologies, Construction Management) — Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London. No quals needed. DM
