@findingphilothea: The best way to remember tips for symphony etiquette is what I call “The Three A’s”: 🎻 Attire: In the past, attendees would dress up in tuxedos and gowns for performances, which are usually now reserved for opening nights or gala events. Your attire for an afternoon or evening at the symphony should be formal or semi-formal attire. A suit or dress is the most appropriate option. Attending a symphony is a wonderful opportunity to wear an elegant or sophisticated look you’ve been wanting to wear! Jeans and t-shirts are too casual for this event. 🎻 Arrival: Arrive EARLY to the symphony, especially if your tickets are being held at the box-office. Locate your seat, and ask an usher for assistance if you need. Sit in your seat before the performance begins. It is important to note that for most performances, if you arrive late, you may need to wait to sit until after a movement or intermission. Make sure you allow yourself enough time to not feel rushed and visit the restroom if needed prior to the performance. 🎻 Applause: Wait to clap until it is clear the performance has ended, not in between movements. When in doubt, wait until the entire audience is clapping! Standing ovations for exceptional performances are appropriate. #etiquettetips #etiquette #etiquettecoach #symphonyetiquette
