@priscillasoliis: “It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out.” This last year has been the hardest year of my life. I don’t normally share my feelings on social media or with anyone but my husband but I thought I would open up to my family and friends and share about what our family has been going through. Many of you know that Aurora was born with fibular hemimelia, which is a congenital condition in which part or all of the fibula (calf bone) is missing. We found this out on Dec 19, 2022 when I was 35 weeks pregnant. My sonogram’s were unclear and at this ultrasound appointment they found that the right leg was measuring 10 weeks smaller than the left and that she also had VSD, holes in her heart. Luckily the cardiologist did an echo and the three holes Aurora had in her heart had closed. As far as the leg it was significantly shorter and unfortunately her doctor had to take off the pinky toe due to it just hanging on top of the toes. Fast forward to three months and we met with our first orthopedic doctor in Fort Worth. The doctor was very much suggesting reconstructive surgery but the entire process and the many surgeries Aurora would have would be traumatic to not only her but to us as well. She would have to be in a wheelchair and we would start this surgery when “we our ready.” Aurora would wear a metal brace and everyday I would have to turn a knob to make her bones stretch to make it grow. Not only would this be painful but Aurora won’t be able to play and be a kid. This was when we went to Scottish Rite in Dallas, Texas and got a second opinion. We first spoke to the reconstruction team to see what they would think and at the end of their exams they even suggested what we have suggested from the beginning, an amputation. The Scottish Rite doctors mentioned that 15 surgeries were needed to reconstruct Auroras leg and that they could not guarantee the length that we would need. So on February 1st, 2024, Aurora had her amputation surgery done at Scottish Rite called Symes amputation and in just one week, she will be receiving her first prosthetic leg. We know that this will be the best thing for her. She will grow up not knowing anything different. We ask for nothing but prayers for our girl. 💕 #fibularhemimeliaawareness #amputeelife #babiesoftiktok #scottishrite #fyp #dallastx #missinglimbs

I understand but I’ve seen this done before but they did the reconstructive surgeries and the girl I grew up with played college ball and everything like no surgeries ever happened

You made the right choice, mama… she’d have been in so much pain and for what? Reconstructive wasn’t promising. Much love ♥️
