This typically stems from an unhealed abandonment wound— when a parent/caregiver didn’t meet your needs in childhood they abandoned you emotionally or physically — leading to feelings & beliefs of unworthiness and unlovability. * Children depend on adults to meet their emotional and physical needs. But when your authentic emotions, thoughts, needs and opinions are chronically invalidated, shamed, punished or criticized (often in homes that are unpredictable, chaotic, narcissistic or abusive), you learn to hide your true self; to become unseen, invisible and sacrifice yourself for others. * This was a SURVIVAL resource growing up when it was it was not emotionally, socially or physically safe to be your authentic self in childhood.
