browbeat.If we say how we really feel about things we are either talked down to or dismissed whether through passive aggression,apathy or just aggression. ~ Even when we go in certain spaces we have to be subjected to unfunny jokes at our expense and being openly ridiculed be it school,work, political campaigns, banks, restaurants the grocery store and more.We are called weak if we don’t stick up for ourselves and we are called angry and aggressive if we do or we get double teamed. And I don’t wanna hear “it’s black women too though..” because this conversation is specifically about black men plus black women do at least have a community and to a certain extent are loved unconditionally by some members of our society. We have even been conditioned to not listen to black men even when it’s a friend,parent, or sibling.Now obviously this isn’t the case with every black man but it is certainly a norm.Our voices are only respected when we echo popular sentiments. ~ My advice to black men is to seek a therapeutic process that serves you best to deal with the pain and baggage but also get be around good quality folks who are objective, but also listen,care, show empathy and kindness. It’s not just about telling a black man to throw all of his problems in “therapy”.He needs to also have good quality people who he can trust and speak with in his everyday life here and there.My second solution is embrace being society’s villain.Be okay with folks hating you for expressing yourself.Think about all the times someone criticized you for sharing your feelings but ran off at the mouth at you and called it “being real”.You are allowed to have a voice too and you need to use it no matter who stands against you. Your voice is powerful and commands accountability, leadership, perspective and deep insight.
