I LOVE practical gifts for this reason. I get to think of my friend everytime I use my favorite spatula? great!! But being burdened with things for the sake of sentimentality is tiring.

My mom does this and she is from the Northeast. She wanted to give me some baby toys and clothes of mine. I don’t plan to have kids so I told her to give it to a women’s shelter. I don’t want it!

I have a 6mnth rule. if its not useful, irreplaceably sentimental or a Christmas decoration. Donations, re-gift or bin it. Really works for me.
