@tannertheplanter: I was repotting a plant today and noticed this plant growing beautifully, despite being in a “death plug.” I see folks all the time talking about how these are the reason for their plants demise, which I understand. I definitely looks like a likely culrpit. However, I have seen so much evidence showing no harm to the plant and no evidence that it does. If they did in fact cause roots to die, wouldn’t this be the case across the board, meaning no success rate once brought to a regular home? I remain uncinvinced, but am hoping for some difinitive research in the future. #plants #planttiktok #plantsoftiktok
My theory has been that the difference in soils (death plug vs new soul) causes the problem. I would never use the dense soil to repot. So the critical roots are always more damp than the longer roots

from my personal experience, I lost 2 peperomias due to them. its hard to tell at first, and the second one I didn't even notice because there was a good amount of growth, but eventually it seems like

My philos soil wasn’t drying out and they weren’t pushing out any leaves. Both had plugs. I removed them and instant improvement

in my case if I make an airy chunky soil and repot without removing I over water the plug because the rest dries out quicker.

I just got a little begonia with one of these mesh things and the roots were tight inside and working hard to try and grow through. Fragile baby roots can’t make it through and dwarf the plant.

Not all of them grow through the mesh in my experience. And that’s basically no better than a tiny pot and expecting it to grow after it’s out grown ‘tiny pot’. 💔

the only issue I've had with the fabric ones is when I buy rescue plants and I need to remove all of the old soil, but the "death plugs" are in my way & I have to cut them off.

Hi Tanner, I can’t find the video, but you mentioned in an orchid video to not re-pot when they’re blooming. Is this a good rule of thumb for all plants, or just orchids?
