It was built through the polo y servicio system by the people who toiled like ants until its bricks adhered together to form its magnificent structure. In its tower hangs the legendary bell that once served as guerillasโ warning device from incoming Japanese armed forces during the Second World War. It is located in the northern part of Bato Poblacion, overlooking the Bato River and the community. Most appropriate indeed, St. John the Baptist is the patron saint of the town which preaches penance or the carrying of the cross. Today, the baroque church with its unique architectural designs dignifies the town. With its rich historical significance, Bato Church communes the people through faith, heritage, and tourism. Bato Church is included in the National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures in the Philippines. The church is a longstanding testament to our provinceโs rich history and resilience as it withstood countless storms and tribulations that have battered the island over the years. #SemanaSanta2024 #ChooseCatanduanes #HappyIsland #WhereHappinessAwaitsYou #LoveCatanduanes #LoveThePhilippines
