Yes I have taught my GSD to leave the squirrels and rabbits alone. When she was a puppy her natural instinct is to chase. Lots of training & you can trust your dog off lead.

I absolutely disagree with the advice you have been given below. Don't ever change direction or try to distract. Sit your dog down and show them the other dog. Tell your dog to stay.
