Seeds I’ve planted this week in my Central Florida garden Part one: Direct sow Carrots (I’ll be succession planting these over the next couple of months) Everglades tomatoes-these are a Florida native cherry tomato that grows so well here it’s practically a weed! Blue lake bush beans (I’ll be succession planting these over the month of September) Chickpeas-my first chickpeas were started from a bag of purchased organic chickpeas meant for consumption: they grew well and I’ve saved seeds from my crops# Corn- this year I’m growing Ultra Violet sweet corn from Burpee as well as Sweet Early Riser which takes about 70 days seed to harvest Onions -I plant these around the perimeter of most of my garden beds Radishes, turnips and beets Pumpkins (specifically Seminole and a couple others that are 90 day or less seed to harvest time) Amaranth- I’ve never met a variety I didn’t like. However, if you want a very inexpensive way to grow a large amount, but buy organic amaranth seed meant for consumption from the grocery store and plant that. It will grow! Brown and Purple Mustard Seed This is my trap crop for Brassicas Flowers like calendula, cosmos and zinnias More Saffron bulbs Transplanted Strawberry plants Part 2: Seeds I started in In soil blocks this week: Tomatoes: an assortment of slicing varieties as well as black strawberry Eggplants Various herbs like basil (my favorite basil for Florida is Thai Basil as it hold up to heat very well. Purple Basil also hold up pretty well in comparison to the green sweet basil Garden huckleberry (you guys know I love garden huckleberry) Cauliflower and other Brassicas
