I see too many times in the gym, where guys will load a barbell up with weight and do pulse shrugs. Not only are you not efficiently building traps your risk for injury goes up. The upper trap fibers don't run up and down like that. If you want to be more effective use a wide grip with a barbell

some people do just to add more weight with no good form. what ever you can handle with proper form do it, then build up and add more weight along the process
