You’re spot on. I do Historic Restoration and have experience w/ old structures. They used to put sheet metal caps on skyward facing out-lookers & beams. Anywhere they put caps the wood is destroyed.

The tape isn’t for sealing it’s for hiding the joist from showing between the deck boards. I use black spray paint.. faster and cheaper

I have always been on the fence about this. The idea of the tape is that it will seal around the screws. Replaced a lot of decks over years. They all rot eventually

Don't care if it's 10' or 10" off the ground, make sure it's graded and doesn't hold water, keep your deck clean and treat it with a water sealer twice a year.

You have 0 reason behind this😂 obviously you’ve never used tape. You can see it self seals. Hence why the trex rain escape works lol

Treated lumber isn't really treated anymore, use the tape, don't use the tape, doesn't matter, still gonna rot.
