my cousin who lives in Japan says they can take picture of Geisha at the back only, its prohibited to take pictures of their face.

honestly when we went to Gion, we saw two Geisha by chance and were so taken aback by how special it was to see them and how beautiful they were that it didn't even cross my mind to take out my phone
