@thehomesteadingrd: DIY Whipped Tallow Balm Recipe ⬇️ Why buy a 2 oz jar of tallow balm for $40 when you can buy 3 lbs of beef fat locally for $9 and make it yourself?! 🙌🏼 I LOVE making my own tallow balm, and having glowing, nourished skin in the middle of winter with simple, local ingredients makes my heart so happy. Tallow balm has been prized for skincare for centuries because it’s highly compatible with our skin and packed full of anti-aging nutrients. Unfortunately, we’ve been stuck in an era that has glorified plant oils.... but here’s the catch - you are a human 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️; not a plant 🌱. Plant oils just aren’t quite as compatible with our skin, plus they are often imported from halfway across the world. The key part is using high-quality tallow from grass-finished cows since it contains more antioxidants and toxins are stored in fat. However, you can’t find it, I still believe fat from conventionally-raised cows is still MUCH better than the lotions you find at the stores. Here’s how to make it: ⭐️Gently melt 1/2 cup of tallow in a double boiler ⭐️*Optional step: Add medicinal herbs (I like to use dried calendula) and heat for another 1-2 hours, then strain ⭐️Remove from heat and stir in 2 Tbsp EVOO and 10 drops of essential oil ⭐️Let cool until slightly firm (30-45 min), then blend using a mixer until light and fluffy ⭐️Store in a jar for up to year That’s it! It’s seriously so easy, amazing for the skin, sourced locally, and will save you A LOT of money, too!
