The brilliant thing about a good purple blush, isn't to necessarily look purple on the skin. Like you said, on deep skin tones this blush would give a beautiful flush, where pink might look grey/dull

I've seen some korean makeup artists use a really pale purple blush, almost ashy, as base and then put on a pink blush on top and it makes the pink really pop while also blending better into the face!
